This is probably the best/most elaborate costume I've made, so I'm going to be a self-serving derp and post it here.
The mantle and skirt were both self-patterned, and all green velvet was satin-stitched around its edges. Thank you to ~Ceriene for being awesome enough to make me my first pair of insulation foam horns! ;w;
SONJA omg you took such beautiful photos of our group. I can't thank you enough!!

I am making this cosplay for a convention in October and was wondering where you got the fabric for the sheer shawl thing as well as the dress fabric itself. Would it be easier to just get white and black fabric with stripes and dye it myself, or should I buy a final product? Thank you so much.
Hi there! The sheer fabric that makes up the...cape, so to speak, was found in a very specific store in NYC's fabric district--I believe it was A&K fabrics, on 39th street, north side of the street close to 8th avenue. They have a website (akfabricsny dot com) but I'm not seeing the specific fabric--NYC stores are used to people needing to order remotely though, so if you call and ask them about it they might be able to find it for you?? I distinctly remember it being in the far right aisle of the store close to the cutting counter, so if you say it's sheer striped green fabric they might be able to grab it. As for the dress fabric itself, I did exactly what you said, I bought white/black cotton knit and dyed it green--not a super exact art, but it got me close enough. xD I wish you luck!! I hope this helps!
Thanks a ton. I actually live on the other side of the country so I don't think that I can walk into a NYC store...But I'll definitely look up the fabric store online to see what they have. I'll probably just end up getting a dye kit. Hmm...If I got extra fabric I could make Eridan's pants...Gotta love cosplaying! Thanks.
Good luck! Yeah, most people have to dye Eridan's pants too--luckily just find a black/white stripe and the black stays in place, the white is the only thing that will dye. You should hit me up when you finish your project! I'd love to see!
I will! The con isn't until October and the costume isn't even for me. I'm going as the Sufferer and I'll have two friends go as Kankri and Karkat. Their mom is going as the Dolorosa. But she doesn't want to keep the costume so I'll get a chance to wear it! Anyways thanks for all of your help!
yes this is the most amazing Dolorosa I have ever seen! Such beautiful form and your face is so pretty. I love this photo, actually all of the photos you have in your gallery! Love it. I'm going to go watch you now. lol By the way, out of curiosity, do you take commissions?
Still can't get enough of this. Best I've ever seen, bar none. That mantle is an absolute work of art, and the colour in the sheer is amazing. The amount of work that must have went into this... Bravo to you!
Hnnnnngggggggghhhhhhhh dat lighting, dat attire, dat EVERYTHING. Seriously though, you make a fantastic Dolorosa. I really like how the light also makes your horns glow slightly. They look so "warm" like that, hehe. This must've been exceptionally tedious to assemble, with the tons of embroidery and all! Looking at how this turned out, however, it seems like it was totally worth it. uwu
Thanks so much!! Yeah, I like the challenge that the Ancestors present, construction-wise, since other Homestuck costumes take no time at all (I made Kanaya in about 3 hours the other night LOL). It's kind of hilarious that the most epic-looking HS cosplays source from about a ten-page span in the comic hahaha
